Summary: A solid text on image processing from a remote sensing perspective

Almost as good as Gonzaez and Woods on explaining digital image processing, this book has the added advantage of showing the relationship between that field and remote sensing. In other words, it shows you how to use the transforms to accomplish goals in the field of remote sensing. Also, it has some really good exercises at the end of each chapter so you can really prove to yourself that you understand what is going on.

I give this book four stars instead of five because there is no real advantage to buying this new book over the previous second edition, although that book is about ten years old. This edition does discuss the more modern sensors, but the calculations and models have not changed. There is no real additional content. In fact this edition and the previous one are almost identical in length. My advice is save yourself some money and get the second edition for less. If you are using it as a professional reference it should serve you well.
