by: Gaston Bachelard
ar

Bachelard, a French chemist turned philosopher who died in 1962, wrote about esthetics, poetics, science and psychoanalysis at a time when the new quantam theory and the theory of relativity were creating cultural upheaval. Bachelard's musings on time, space, causality and creative intuition are compatible with the mainstream of today's scientific thinking.

In The New Scientific Spirit, Bachelardexamines the changes during the twentieth century in the views of mathematics, physics, and the scientific method and discusses the role of the mind in science.
